Projects and Service Delivery
Skills, Employment and Careers Expo
The Skills, Employment & Careers Expos have been delivered annually by YouthWorX NT on behalf of the NT Government since 2010. YouthWorX NT has facilitated the success and growth of this event which is now held in 5 locations: Darwin, Katherine, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and Nhulunbuy. In 2014 the events attracted over 200 exhibitors and nearly 6000 attendees. The events provide a valuable opportunity for local students and job seekers to meet and engage with business, employers, training providers and educational institutions, both local and national.

In response to skill shortages in trade areas, YouthWorX NT collaborates with local training providers to deliver supported training to young people interested in gaining relevant qualifications which will lead to sustainable employment in the trades. Vocational training, including work experience, is provided with concurrent and ongoing mentoring and support for the learners. YouthWorX NT liaises with employers, provides one on one job coaching and teaches skills for job search. NDS Katherine Community Inclusion Project
In partnership with Step Out Community Access and Kintore Street Special School, YouthWorX NT will consult with four service users and their families. The partnership will explore innovative approaches to facilitating community inclusion, including both social and economic participation, for people living with a disability in Katherine.
Utilising a strengths-based approach that is age and culturally appropriate, YouthWorX NT will support this partnership to promote greater collaboration between local service providers, people with a disability, their families and guardians and the general community.
Using co-design and Participatory Action Research, we will develop models of individualised support which are underpinned by choice and meaningful participation. These learnings will help to inform implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme in Katherine and the Northern Territory.

Katherine Community Capacity and Engagement Project
This project consists of three strategies to support long term local workforce development in the Katherine and surrounding region. In partnership with Jobfind and the Chamber of Commerce, YouthWorX NT will consult with employers and young people who have left school to develop a best practice work experience model relevant to the needs and context of the region. This model will be avalible to stakeholders through the Chamber of Commerce website.
The project will identify the capacity of local service providers to deliver pre-employment and life skills for vocational pathways training to vulnerable young people in Katherine. To assist service providers in staff professional development and training, Coaching Young People For Success leader training will be delivered to individuals currently in roles supporting and mentoring young people.

The informal evening will include a meal for participants and employers, together with the opportunity to discuss a range of career options. It will follow a similar process to 'speed dating' with small groups moving between presenters and employers sharing their career journeys and some basic information about local opportunities in their industry.
