Sarah came to Transition to Work after completing a year 12 equivalency program, and with a few months’ casual employment on her resume. After a short period of unemployment, Sarah became registered with Centrelink and was referred to YouthWorX NT.
Due to Sarah’s previous work experience, she commenced in Transition to Work in the program’s ‘Work Preparation’ phase. With the support and guidance of her dedicated Youth Development Coach, Sarah undertook career exploration activities in order to work out a pathway that interested her.
As a result of this exploration, Sarah became curious about working in the community services sector. When YouthWorX NT offered Transition to Work participants the opportunity to attend an information session about its 8-week Community Services CareerStart program, Sarah jumped at the chance.
Sarah successfully completed the program, which included selected units from the Certificate III in Individualised Support. The Community Services CareerStart program also provided Sarah with a 2 week, fully supported work placement at Carpentaria, which provides Disability and Therapy Services for children, adolescents and adults.
After completing YouthWorX NT’s CareerStart program Sarah expressed an interest in undertaking further study in the community services sector. With the support of her Youth Development Coach, she enrolled in and completed a Certificate II in Community Services in just 4 weeks.
With her passion for working in this area solidified, Sarah is now enrolled in a Certificate III in Community Services. She is currently being supported by her Youth Development Coach to achieve her goal of obtaining her provisional licence, so that when she completes her course she can move straight into employment.
